Journey to Alicante during the Second Spanish Republic and the Spanish Civil War: the city where the war ended

We will start at the Plaza de los Luceros to learn about what Alicante was like during the republican years and its strategic importance during the war. We will continue to the Central Market, where we will relive the devastating bombing of May 25, 1938, one of the deadliest attacks suffered by the civilian population.

We will proceed to the Principal Theater and the old Ideal Cinema, spaces that reflect the cultural and social life of a city marked by conflict, repurposed after the war for other uses. At Doctor Balmis Square, we will learn about the history of the air-raid shelters and how thousands of Alicante residents protected themselves from bombings, as well as the network of shelters that was created in the city.
