Step into the legendary past of old Shanghai on this slow walking tour.

We begin at the historic Hongkou Fire Station, where dramatic fire tales and forgotten stories of the concession era linger. We pass the old Victory Cinema, once a popular movie house for Shanghai citizens. Then we reach the grand 1924 Shanghai Postal Museum, the “Far East Post Office”, full of stories of old mailmen and secret letters.

Cross Zhapu Road Bridge for stunning river views, then walk to the iconic Waibaidu Bridge. We finish our journey in the quiet Rockbund (Bund Origin) area, exploring Union Church, historic apartments and the old Lyceum Building.

You will hear mysterious legends, forgotten anecdotes, dramatic wartime stories and hidden secrets behind these century-old buildings. Plenty of photo stops, small group, no rush.

Former West Honganji Temple Look at this amazing white wall. This is the former West Honganji Temple, built in 1931. It was a Japanese Buddhist temple. The design copies ancient Indian cave temples. You can see big lotus carvings on the wall. Many carvings and statues were lost over time. Only this strange beautiful wall stays. It holds mysterious stories from old Shanghai.

Zhapu Road Film & Heritage StreetLook at this street corner. This is Zhapu Road Film & Heritage Street, at Haining Road crossing. This was Shanghai’s old movie zone. The movie She Came to the Bamboo Alley was shot right here. Old storefronts bring us back to the 1940s. Many old stories happened in these lanes. Films wake up the hidden secrets of old Shanghai.

Victory Cinema中国上海市虹口区北站乍浦路408号邮政编码: 200081Built in 1929, Victory Cinema was originally Hollywood Theatre. This unique hybrid building blends western curved facade with a traditional Chinese roof. The famous writer Lu Xun watched films here many times. It is the only surviving theatre of Hongkou’s historic cinema golden triangle.
