A very interesting tour through one of Cape Town's neighborhoods that remains most true to its roots. Muhammad was born and raised in this neighborhood, so he's able to share its history and unique features in detail. A great way to see and experience Cape Town from a different perspective.
If you’re looking for a walking tour while in Cape Town, you can’t go past this walking tour of Bo-Kaap with Muhammad Ilyas.. what a fabulous experience .. A local resident born and breed that knows the area inside out.... we even got to experience some homestyle hospitality at Aunties house while trying a local delicacy, Koe'sister.. a 5 star tour with a fabulous guide ..
The tour with Muhammad exceeded our expectations. Muhammad took us through the history of South Africa, Cape Town, and Bo-Kaap. While walking through the neighborhood, he explained the history of his area in a fun and clear way. Among other things, we visited a mosque and tasted a local delicacy in someone's home. Our children, aged 10, 13, and 15, also really enjoyed it and found it very interesting (so the tour is definitely suitable for young children).
If you want to experience the real Bo Kaap and get to know locals that you can support - do this tour. Ilyas was very knowledgable and kind. We loved meeting the locals, seeing the community garden and the spice shop.
Despite the rainy weather, we were pleasantly surprised that our tour wasn't cancelled. Mohamed was absolutely amazing, he took us on a wonderful, informative, and detailed tour that we would highly recommend to anyone. Not only did we learn more about the rich history of Bo Kaap and the area itself, but we also gained insight into the current challenges faced by the local community. It was truly inspiring to witness the strength of community spirit and how supporting one another can shift perspectives and create positive change. We had the chance to visit a local tourism market and meet some of the most well-known individuals who are working hard to support both tourism and the community's growth. A heartfelt experience and definitely a must-do for anyone visiting South Africa and Bo Kaap!
