Communist Stories of Tallinn Donation Based Walking Tour

Duration: 2h

EstAdventures is a small, locally owned and operated tour company offering walking tours in English. Each guide works exclusively for EstAdventures and has been selected for their knowledge, passion, enthusiasm and charming personalities. You will be guided by Jonas, Marko, Dominic, Christopher Robert, Kadri or Ricardo. The aim will always be to keep things simple, keep them honest, and keep them fun. We like to think that each client who comes on an EstAdventures tour is a friend visiting Estonia, and we show them around with that mindset. We know Estonia well because we live here. But we can explain it well because we understand what makes it interesting to a foreigner. We have a passion for Estonia, its history, its culture, its natural assets, and its people. This makes us the perfect guides to show you around. Seeing ourselves more as storytellers than historians, we offer a personal touch so that you have fun and get a real insight into Estonia.

Tour description

The Communist history of Tallinn can be hard to pick up in the modern city, but this fantastic tour will unlock the fascinating communist past.
We explore the scenes which hosted the essential events, and where tales both terrifying and hilarious played out.

This tour will dish out the history and politics, but will also give you real-life tales from locals about what it was like to live in Communist Tallinn. Some of the stories will shock you, some are so absurd they will make you laugh!

Donation based tour is only meant for groups smaller than 5pax. Groups bigger than that has a fixed price 7€ per person.

The best walking tour I've been on. Christopher was so knowledgeable and intelligent and his family stories were most interesting. It was a fun tour which ended up at Linnahall.

Extremely informative and presented in a very digestable way. Nikola answered all of our questions and made this rather difficult topic easy to listen to. I also took the Tallin in a Nutshell tour with the same company (and I've had the luck to have the same guide) and it was amazing. Highly recommend!

Marko told us in his introduction that he is a history teacher and that became clear in the way he told us about the different aspects of Estonia's occupation by the Soviets. He put across the sometimes harrowing details in as balanced a manner as possible and explained clearly how it has left a legacy of problems yet to be solved.

Marko was an excellent guide, he knew a lot and answered every question patiently and in detail. We would no have expected to have such a great tour! Would definitively recommed to do this if you want to also get to know the modern history of Tallinn and Estonia in general.
