Mdina and Rabat, Free Tour The Most Traditional Malta

In Valletta, starting at 10:30, in October 2026: Joseph Howard Memorial, Palazz Vilhena and Belvedere.

  • 2 hours and 15 minutes
  • English, Spanish and Italian

Description

Mdina and Rabat, the most traditional Malta.

This tour is perfect for you to discover the most authentic Malta, full of history, traditions, and surprises. The only free tour that allows you to explore the wonderful medieval city of Mdina and the traditional village of Rabat.

Mdina is a dream city, preserved as if time had stopped forever in its streets and castles. So much so that several TV and movie productions have been filmed here to represent ancient times and mythical worlds.
That's why we will start by talking about the history of Malta and the city, and the life of its inhabitants, (who were they? what did they use to do?) in medieval times, and the secrets and details hidden in the city, also visiting the most important places, including the filming areas of “Game of Thrones”, “Gladiator”... We will walk through the winding streets, admire the squares, and look over the city walls, which offer one of the best views of our islands. The city is very small, so we will cover practically every corner.

After this visit to what used to be the most important city of the archipelago, we will continue through the village that grew around it, Rabat, which today remains a perfect example of the Maltese rural lifestyle and the charm of its traditional settlements. Streets with character and history, which help us discover a Malta that (fortunately) resists disappearing. We will walk through Rabat and talk about our Malta: the desserts, the inhabitants, the traditions, and, in general, the most beautiful spots. With this tour, we would like you to know our history in the most pleasant way, our present in a sweet way, and what makes this island so unique.

To conclude, we will give you recommendations on where to eat, which museums to visit or answer any questions you may have, to ensure you don't miss anything worth visiting in this area and its surroundings.

Please, if you are a group of more than 6 people, contact us. We accept group bookings with more than 5 participants, with a deposit payment of 15€ per person that allows us to maintain the maximum number of participants and a decent salary for the guide, so all parties can enjoy the experience :)

This is not a classic free tour, instead, you will enjoy the tour with our licensed guides who have had the proper training, professionals who have made guiding their life, their passion, and their livelihood.

Due to this, the suggested price per person starts from 15€ to 20€ to maintain all tours with the highest quality and sustainability. If this makes you hesitate to join, just look at our reviews!

Additionally, if you accompany this with our other free tours, you can have a complete experience that will allow you to learn everything you need to know about our islands.

In our schedule, you can also find “Discovering Valletta, UNESCO Capital”, where we focus on our history, while also learning about our gastronomy, main filming locations, or unique aspects of one of the most beautiful and interesting cities in the world (remember, it's not just us saying this, UNESCO says it too!)

After visiting Valletta, you can continue with our “Free Co-Cathedral Tour”, where we will visit one of the most impressive places in Malta, full of art, including Caravaggios.

What we want is for you not to miss anything from these wonderful islands!

And for the most demanding, or for those looking for something more 'exotic', made for you or simply would like to see more options, don't miss our paid tours on our website which includes classic tours like the megalithic temples of Malta (the only ones in the world) or other unique ones, like ghost tours or cemetery visits (hopefully not both at the same time).

COVID-19 MEASURES We take all safety and hygiene measures recommended by health authorities.
