Tour description

Explore Budapest through its alternative cultures on a 2 hour small-group walking tour of the sights and historical landmarks that other tours rarely show you. Go deeper into Budapest’s art scenes, mural paintings, and statutes and explore the present and future, rather than the past.

Head away from the main tourist hangouts to explore Budapest's Jewish district, where the city’s alternative culture is kicking off.  Learn about, and visit ruined bars and how the city developed after the World War.

We will visit:

  • Main murals in district 7
  • Szimpla Kert ruin bar
  • "colorful city" arts
  • Memorial statues in the Jewish quarter
  • Famous abandoned buildings

Looking forward to seeing you on my tour! :)

Zsanett showed us the secret places in the neighborhood where murals, graffiti and sculptures were that had meaning and symbolic of the history of the areas. This tour is highly recommended.

Burak was the substitute guide and it was only his second tour! He had great energy and really tried his best to provide a good and informative tour. He took us to some interesting places that I wouldn’t have discovered on my own. Best of luck to him on his tour guide endeavors I’m sure he will be a pro in no time! I do suggest for him to be a bit more interactive with the group but overall a nice tour, i recommend!

Zsanett was off and Burak substituted for her. He was great for a first-timer! Warm and friendly personality, very thoughtful and impressively knowledgeable. Towards the end of the tour Burak really got into the groove sharing his insider knowledge. With more tours under his belt, he’ll shine! Suggested modifications for tour: 1. End the tour in a more bustling place. We walked past a closed Szimpla Kert in the middle of the tour but ending there (or near it) could have been better. 2. Talk a bit more about all the “unsanctioned” street art we walked past - even if to explain some of the reasoning behind the sponsored large murals in the area. A clearer story about the role street art plays in the community, with heroes and villains and dramatic tension, would be super. All in all, a solid tour. If you come to it curious with questions and a keen eye, you will have an enjoyable time!
