Tour description

What was it really like to live under one of the most restrictive communist regimes in Eastern Europe?

Join this powerful walking tour and discover the hidden stories of Communist Bucharest, from propaganda and surveillance to resistance and revolution.

For more than four decades Romania lived under the dictatorship of Nicolae Ceaușescu, a regime that reshaped the city and controlled nearly every aspect of daily life.

But beyond the political speeches and massive buildings, there were millions of ordinary people trying to survive, adapt and sometimes quietly resist.

What you will discover

Starting in Revolution Square, the symbolic place where the Romanian Revolution began, we explore the streets of the city to uncover the dramatic story of Romania’s communist era.

During this tour you will learn:

• how communism came to power in Romania

• how propaganda and personality cults shaped society

• the role of the secret police and surveillance

• why entire historic neighborhoods were demolished to build the massive Palace of the Parliament

• how people lived with food shortages, censorship and restrictions

This tour is about history, but also about real human stories — how people lived, adapted and survived behind the Iron Curtain.
