Free tour of San Cristóbal de las Casas
Tour description
We will start our free tour of San Cristóbal de las Casas by meeting at the Central Park, under the MUSAC clock. It's important to identify us with the red free tour umbrella. (Important, to conduct the free tour, a minimum of 2 participants is required.)
In this central esplanade, we will contemplate the neoclassical façade of the San Cristóbal Museum. Next to MUSAC, one of the city's most iconic buildings, we will appreciate the exterior architecture of the San Cristóbal Mártir Cathedral. As we will see, the temple perfectly combines different styles such as Mudejar and Baroque.
We will continue the tour discovering various curiosities about the history of the state of Chiapas. Its origins date back to the 16th century! In the case of San Cristóbal, the city was founded in 1528 by Diego de Mazariegos.
After discovering other anecdotes about Chiapas and San Cristóbal, we will arrive at the Church of Carmen, its famous arch, dating from the 17th century, is one of the architectural emblems of the municipality.
The next stop will take place in a shop-workshop where we will discover how Chiapaneco amber is worked.
Finally, we will conclude the guided tour with a walk through the most emblematic streets of the old town of San Cristóbal. Before saying goodbye, we will recommend the best places where you can taste on your own a traditional liquor called pox.
We look forward to seeing you!
