My name is Korbi, I’m 32 years old, and I was born and raised in Munich. Having spent most of my life here, I've had the pleasure of experiencing many local events, including working for many years at the world's largest beer festival, Oktoberfest, and encountering countless amusing situations around the city. After spending a year abroad in Córdoba, Spain, I grew to appreciate my hometown even more. In 2017, I started offering tours in both English and German, and I quickly realized how much I enjoy showing people from all over the world around Munich. After completing a seminar training and examination with the city's oldest tour guide company, I’ve continued to collaborate with them as a freelance guide. I lead a variety of private/fixed price tours, including those focused on the city's history, culinary delights at the market, brewery visits, and more recently, street art. While studying Renewable Energy Management in the nearby town of Weihenstephan, Freising, I wanted to find a way to combine my passion for guiding tours with my commitment to sustainable development. This led me to pursue a master’s degree in Environmental Education in Cádiz during the uncertain times of COVID. In August 2023, I returned to Munich and began working as an independent educator for SWM, the city's main infrastructure company. I focus on projects with schools that promote sustainable development, covering essential topics such as water, heating, and energy. I'm very excited to offer free walking tours in English and Spanish through Guruwalk, where I share the history of Munich and its innovative developments in a captivating and engaging way. Munich holds a significant place in history as the city where Hitler and the Nazi Party rose to power before the onset of World War II. This makes it an important location to reflect on this tragic chapter of our past and to learn valuable lessons for fostering a more sustainable and socially responsible future. I would love to welcome you in my tour :) Hugs and greets, Korbi

Tour description

Welcome to Munich!

I warmly invite you to a special walking tour through Munich’s historic old town, ending with a peaceful stroll through the city’s green heart: the English Garden.

Together, we’ll explore Munich’s most iconic buildings and their fascinating stories – some funny, some thought-provoking – all told from the perspective of a local who grew up here and knows the city inside out.

Along the way, I’ll share local tips, personal anecdotes, fun facts about Oktoberfest and Bavarian traditions, and recommendations for amazing day trips in the region.

Tour route:

📍 Meeting point: Marienplatz (U-Bahn and S-Bahn), in front of the New Town Hall at the corner called “Wurmeck” (left corner when facing the town hall, at the beginning of Weinstrasse, western side).
👉 If you see a dragon on the corner of the building – you're in the right spot!

🔍 How to recognize the guide:
I’ll be waiting with a blue-and-white checked sign and umbrella that says:
“Free Tour: Local Bavarian Guide in English”

After a short introduction to Munich’s founding and the famous Glockenspiel, we’ll visit:

  • The Frauenkirche (Cathedral of Our Lady)
  • The legendary Hofbräuhaus
  • The National Theatre and Royal Residence
  • Odeonsplatz with the Theatine Church
  • The Feldherrnhalle and stories from Munich’s darker Nazi past

Then we head into the green side of the city: through the Hofgarten and into the English Garden. We’ll pass a small waterfall and see locals swimming in the Eisbach stream, ending at the city’s famous surf wave.

The tour ends in front of the Haus der Kunst (House of Art) – a great place to visit a gallery or relax at the Goldene Bar.
If you’d like to continue, it’s just a short walk to the Chinesischer Turm beer garden, where you can enjoy a refreshing drink or a typical Bavarian lunch under chestnut trees.

After many years guiding visitors in German and Spanish, I’m excited to now also offer this experience to English-speaking guests – to help you see and feel Munich through local eyes.

Please make a reservation if you'd like to join the tour.
Looking forward to meeting you!

Warm regards,
Korbi
