Free tour around the Baixa including viewpoint

Tour description:

First of all: You are welcome to bring another person with you spontaneously!

However, I am also available for larger groups upon special request!

Let me take you on my tour of the Baixa, Lisbon's historic lower town, including viewpoints, music, history, food and much more!

The meeting and end point is the boat terminal at the Commerce Square (Praça do Comércio), the “Terminal Fluvial Terreiro do Paço”, where you will also find toilets.

Where are we going? What's this all about?

1. Meeting and end point: Terminal Terreiro do Paço : Practical information & introduction

2. Trading Place : Equestrian statue of Joseph I: The earthquake, the tsunami & the headstrong King Joseph I.

3. Trading Place : Site of the regent murder of 1908: A bouquet of flowers in the fight against lead bullets & Germans and Portugal

4. Through the Baixa to Praça Dom João da Câmara: The Elevador Santa Justa

5. Hotel Avendida Palace : James Bond is from Lisbon & the German ambassador (without meaning to) makes Portugal a republic

6. The Dominican Church : The massacre of the Jews and the centuries-long struggle of Portuguese Jews for UN visibility… It's a matter of life and death!

7. The delicacies of Manteigaria Silva : Black pig, bacalhau & the most popular Portuguese snack comes from Berlin!

8. CDS party headquarters at Largo do Caldas : A mattress in a bunk bed for €400/month? Or would you rather live in a four-room apartment in an old building in the city center for €40/month? Welcome to Lisbon!

9. Break at the Miradouro do Chão do Loureiro viewpoint: dream view of the Baixa

10. Alfama/ Rua da Saudade : Fado & Brazilian Funk: Both are Portugal!

11. Roman Amphitheater : Did the people of Cologne already enjoy eating Portuguese canned fish in Roman times?

12. Aljube Prison Museum: The prudish dictator: kissing forbidden, God save us from Coca-Cola and why Portugal bombed Angolan villages with napalm in the 1970s

13. Cathedral : The world has been at home in Portugal since the 16th century. An African village in Lisbon? Portugal and its former colonies today

14. Largo José Saramargo : Conclusion/ Questions/ Practical/ “Goodbye”

I look forward to you!
