Hidden Gems in LA: Little Tokyo, Olvera Street, and Union Station

Duration: 2h

Having been a tour guide for ten years in three different cities (New Orleans, New York City, and Los Angeles), I've had a lot of time learning the best ways to see different places by foot and discover the secrets you may not find otherwise. The best trips I've ever taken were in India, Cuba, Japan, and throughout South America. I love to meet people from abroad and spend time learning about them.

Tour description

Explore the cultural heritage of Los Angeles by visiting its oldest and most unique neighborhoods! Though founded in the 1700s, most people only think of movies when they think of LA. Rarely do tourists visit the lesser-known locations of Little Tokyo and Olvera Street.

On this tour, we will walk through its earliest historical past as well as see some of its most important buildings.

We will learn about:

  • Little Tokyo, its restaurants and where to find authentic Japanese food.
  • Famous locations in the neighborhood and its resilience in face of struggle during the Internment Camp era.
  • City Hall, when it got built and why it's one of the most famous buildings on the West Coast.
  • Olvera Street, its connections to the earliest history of Los Angeles and what it is today.
  • Union Station, its amazing architecture and glory days of the past.

You'll definitely enjoy learning about unique, hidden gems throughout this less-traveled part of Los Angeles.

We were a relatively small group of 7 people. While this may not be optimal for the tour guide, it allowed us to ask all the questions we had, not only about this particular tour but also about LA in general as well as Kyle himself. I really enjoyed the tour and Kyle is a super nice guy.
