Hello, food lovers and curious travelers!

I'm Nina, a licensed tourist guide born and raised in Ljubljana, and I would love to invite you to discover my city through its flavors, stories and streets.

Besides guiding visitors for many years, I am also a professor of Spanish and hold a Master’s degree in Sociology, which gives me a special interest in the culture of everyday life — and food is one of its most fascinating expressions.

For me, food is never just about eating. It is also about connection, conversation and the joy of sharing a moment together. Across cultures, food has always been one of the most beautiful ways people meet, talk and understand each other. This tour is designed in that spirit.

👣 A Walking Food Experience

This is not a classic food tour where we sit down in restaurants.

Instead, we will walk through Ljubljana’s historic centre, discovering the city step by step while enjoying several small tastings along the way.

As we stroll through lively squares and charming streets, you will learn not only about Ljubljana’s history and architecture, but also about its culinary traditions and everyday food culture.

Along the way we will explore questions such as:

• What did people in Ljubljana traditionally eat?

• Which dishes are considered typically Slovenian?

• Which ingredients shaped our cuisine through history?

• And why has the Central Market always been the heart of the city?

We will also talk about the first Slovenian cookbook, seasonal ingredients, and how food traditions evolved over time.

Because food is never just food — it always carries stories about people, culture and everyday life.

Our walk will lead us through some of the most beautiful parts of Ljubljana’s old town, including:

• Cobblers’ Bridge

• Old Square

• Town Square and the Robba Fountain

• the vibrant Central Market

Along the way we will stop for small tastings of authentic Slovenian flavours — simple, local and sometimes surprisingly different from what visitors expect.

The tastings are small but carefully chosen, designed to introduce you to Slovenian cuisine while we explore the city together.

This tour is not designed as a classic sightseeing walk focused on Ljubljana’s main landmarks.

💸 About the Tastings

This tour is free to join, as is common on GuruWalk. However, the small tastings along the way are not free for the guide, since I personally cover the cost of these bites for the group.

If you enjoy the experience, I kindly ask guests to support the tour with a tip, which helps cover the tastings and allows me to continue offering this experience. Most guests usually contribute around €15–€20 per person, depending on how much they enjoyed the tour.
