Free Tour of Mysteries and Legends of Santander
Tour description
Echoes of tragedies, prophecies, and whispers from the past come to life in this free tour of mysteries and legends of Santander, a journey that reveals the city's most hidden side. We will start in front of the Museum of Prehistory and Archaeology of Cantabria, an ideal point to begin this journey. Our first stop will be the Macho Building, the scene of a severe fire in the 70s and, according to many, home to a mischievous goblin that activates elevators at night. From there, we will approach the entrance of the Air Raid Shelter, under the Plaza del Príncipe, where we will evoke how the people of Santander survived the bombings of the Civil War.
We will continue to the Velarde Square, the epicenter of the devastating fire of 1941. Very close by, we will see the Monument to the Fire, next to the promenade, which commemorates the strength of a city capable of rising from the ashes.
Following towards Muelle de Calderón Street, we will stop at the Monument to the Victims of the Machichaco, to relive the explosion of the Cabo Machichaco ship.
Afterwards, we will pass in front of our Cathedral where we will learn about two incredible legends, and we will delve into Limón Street and the Cabildo de Arriba neighborhood, where ancient smuggler tunnels and tales of wandering souls envelop every corner.
The tour concludes at the Town Hall, after an hour and a half of stories that showcase a mysterious, surprising, and lively Santander.
