Barcelona, capital of the Crown of Aragon

The tour lasts 3 hours
Available in English and Spanish

Description

We won't be taking a stroll, we'll be having a history lesson… at our own pace. Learning, street by street, about the events that transformed Barcelona into that great maritime capital of the Crown of Aragon.
This route invites you to explore the Barcelona that witnessed the birth and growth of the power of the Crown of Aragon, one of the great powers of the medieval Mediterranean.
We will begin, just as this city began, in the hidden monastery of Santa Anna, from a time when Barcelona still breathed as a scattered settlement, surrounded by fields and threats. Here, between stone walls and prayer, the pulse of a city was being forged, a city that did not yet know it was destined to rule the Mediterranean. (Entrance: 2 EUR)
We will walk towards the Gothic Quarter and the Jewish Quarter, passing by the synagogue and the oldest neighborhoods of the city, discussing the evolution of the Crown of Aragon since it joined the Catalan counties.
We will continue wandering through the Gothic Quarter until we reach the Museu d'Història de Barcelona (MUHBA), located in the royal palaces, from where the House of Barcelona ruled the Mediterranean and the entire Crown of Aragon (Entrance 8 EUR).
Finally, we will say goodbye to the Crown of Aragon in the place where it died, after the War of Succession of 1714 against the Bourbons.
That extinct country that once was, we can revive in a morning of culture and good conversation.
It will be a living history lesson, to understand the fabulous story of how a city became an empire.
