The tour of the Citadel of Saladin and the Alabaster Mosque is an incredible journey into the medieval heart of Cairo.

What you will see during the tour 🕌
- The Military Fortress of Saladin: We will admire the imposing walls and defensive towers built in 1176 AD. You will discover how this strategic position on Mount Moqattam protected Cairo for generations and defended the city from the Crusaders ⚔️.
- The Alabaster Mosque (Muhammad Ali): The undisputed symbol of Cairo's skyline. We will enter this 19th-century Ottoman masterpiece to be enchanted by its enormous domes, slender minarets, and precious interiors entirely covered in alabaster.
- The Mosque of Sultan Al-Nasir Muhammad: A "hidden" gem from the Mamluk period (14th century). Less lavish but more spiritual, it is famous for its unique minarets decorated with mosaics and its evocative hypostyle courtyard.
- Panoramic Terrace 🔭: Our 'wow moment'. From the top of the fortress, we will enjoy a breathtaking 360° view of Cairo. We will see the old city with its endless minarets and, on clear days, the silhouette of the Pyramids of Giza, Saqqara, and Dahshur standing on the horizon.
- Jawhara Palace (Palace of Jewels): We will conclude with the Jawhara Palace. Built by Muhammad Ali in 1814, this palace was his personal residence and the seat of government.
To enter the mosques, women must cover their entire body (including hair), but if you don't have one, you will find "free" garments for you in the mosques instead of men. Shorts must not reveal the upper part of the knee.
💶 Payment is cash only. Guruwalk suggests a contribution between €15 and €50 per participant, but the final amount is up to you based on your level of satisfaction. Any contribution will be appreciated.
