London history and legends: from the Tower to St. Paul's
The tour lasts 2 hours
Available in German
Description
How did a small Roman settlement become the vibrant megacity of today? What dark legends lie hidden behind the tower's thick walls, and how did a small fire in a bakery forever change the city's face? If you're looking for captivating stories, historical anecdotes, hidden corners, and the exciting contrast between centuries-old traditions and modern skyscrapers, then this tour is perfect for you!
On our journey together, from the historic Tower of London to the majestic St. Paul's Cathedral, we travel through the centuries. We delve into the harsh Middle Ages, discuss the dramatic events of the 17th century, and marvel at the architectural masterpieces of the present day.
The tour is family-friendly, conducted entirely in German, and combines historical knowledge with the true London lifestyle.
The highlights of our route:
• Tower Hill & Roman City: We start where it all began almost 2,000 years ago and look at the remains of the old Roman city wall.
• The Tower of London & Tower Bridge: We admire the fortress of kings from the outside and enjoy a fantastic view of the world's most famous drawbridge.
• The Monument: We are standing at the site of the Great Fire of London
• Leadenhall Market: An absolute gem of Victorian architecture – and a magical place
• The Financial Centre (Bank, Royal Exchange & Mansion House): This is the economic heart of the United Kingdom. We will see the historic Stock Exchange, the Bank of England, and the Lord Mayor's residence.
• Paternoster Square & St. Paul's Cathedral: We end our tour at the foot of the monumental cathedral.
I've prepared a little activity for children to bring the story to life and keep them entertained. I'm happy to answer any questions – whether they're about school in England, quirky customs, or things you usually only learn in English class.
⚠️Important note:
Since we're starting at the Tower of London, and London's history hasn't always been for the faint heart, this tour will also cover historical executions, prisoners, and ghost stories. I'll present it in an age-appropriate way, of course, but it's simply part of the city's true history!
Duration: approx. 2 hours
Route : approx. 2.7 km (flat, easily walkable and stroller-friendly).
Weather: The tour will take place regardless of the weather – British rain won't stop us! Please dress appropriately (layering is recommended) and don't forget comfortable shoes.
Meeting point, start & finish: We meet directly at the exit of the Tower Hill subway station (District & Circle lines). The tour ends
at St. Paul's Cathedral. The nearest tube station is St. Paul's (Central Line), from where you have perfect connections for the rest of your day in London.
