Elegant Zagreb: from the Belle Époque to the Orient Express
The tour lasts 2 hours
Available in Spanish
Description
We begin our tour in the Lower Town, the commercial and administrative heart of the city, which experienced significant development in the late 19th century when it was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire . The architecture of this area blends Neoclassical, Historicist, and Art Nouveau styles, characteristic of the Belle Époque. This is the only tour of the Lower Town in Spanish.
Highlights:
Ban Jelačić Square – Start of the tour and presentation of the Lower Town and its development during the Belle Époque.
Octagon (Oktogon) – Step through the elegant late 19th-century shopping arcade, a refined Belle Époque atmosphere
Croatian National Theatre – Commentary on its neo-Baroque architecture and cultural significance.
Croatian State Archives – Exterior visit to one of the best examples of Art Nouveau in Zagreb.
Hotel Esplanade – History of the iconic hotel built for passengers of the Orient Express.
King Tomislav Square – Explanation of the square and view of the Art Pavilion, a symbol of the cultural boom of the late 19th century.
Zrinjevac Park – A stroll through one of the most elegant parks in the Green Horseshoe of Lenuci.
Among squares, parks, monumental buildings and the legendary Esplanade Hotel, we relive the golden age when the Orient Express brought Zagreb closer to the great European capitals, leaving a legacy of architecture, culture and sophistication that still forms part of the charm of the Lower Town today.
