Nara: Everything you need to know! (More than just deer)
The tour lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes
Available in English and Spanish
Description
Did you know that the deer of Nara have been considered messengers of the gods for centuries?
Nara is much more than its famous deer. During this 2.5-hour tour, we'll discover the history of one of Japan's ancient capitals and learn how Buddhism and Shintoism influenced the city and Japanese culture.
We'll begin by Sarusawa Pond and walk towards Kōfuku-ji, one of Nara's most important temples. Afterward, we'll visit the Nara National Museum and explore the park, learning about the history of its sacred deer, their legends, and the proper way to interact with them.
We will end at Tōdai-ji, one of Japan's most iconic temples and home to the famous Great Buddha.
During the tour we will talk about history, religion, Japanese culture and curiosities that will help you understand Nara beyond what appears in photographs.
The tour does not require paid admission. At the end, you can decide whether you wish to enter the paid areas of Tōdai-ji on your own.
