Description
We begin our walk at the cafeteria next to the Europa Point playground, the perfect starting point to take in the fresh sea air before heading along the Europa Point cliffs. As we follow the coastline, you’ll enjoy sweeping views across the Strait of Gibraltar, the Mediterranean, and—on a clear day—the mountains of Africa rising in the distance.
Our first major landmark is the Europa Point Lighthouse, where you’ll hear the story of its construction, its role guiding ships at one of the world’s busiest maritime crossroads, and the unique symbolism it holds for Gibraltar.
Continuing along the path, we pause at the General Sikorski Memorial, honouring the Polish wartime leader whose legacy is deeply tied to Gibraltar. From there, we explore Hardings Battery, a restored Victorian-era fortification that once guarded the strait with heavy artillery.
We finish at the Shrine of Our Lady of Europe, one of Gibraltar’s most sacred and historic sites. Here you’ll learn how this small chapel became a beacon of faith for sailors, soldiers, and locals over centuries.
Throughout the walk you’ll enjoy breathtaking views, rich historical stories, general information about Gibraltar’s heritage, and plenty more along the way.
You can make your way to meeting point by vehicle. There is a carpark in Europa Point. Also, the main bus to Europa Point is Bus Route 2, which runs between Market Place (town centre) and Europa Point. If you are: In the town centre (Market Place): take Route 2 directly to Europa Point. Coming from the Frontier or Airport: take Route 5 or Route 10 to Market Place, then change to Route 2.
