A solo female traveler that has been based in Amsterdam for 29 years and guiding tours since 2011.
I love sharing the beauty of the city of Amsterdam with tourists and I am also a travel blog founder and spent my free time writing about my travel adventures such as solo traveling in Tanzania and Kenya, scuba diving with whale sharks in Thailand or becoming a scuba diving instructor in Bali.
Traveling and getting immersed in other cultures, understanding their ways of life and perspectives, is the missing pillar in our educational systems.
I believe that traveling should be a culturally immersive experience. Building bridges between countries and cultures while respecting mutual differences does not only benefit the traveler but also the hosting communities.
We signed up for the Red light district in Amsterdam evening walking tour, but left after 10 minutes into guide's talk because didn't feel good. Also, as a FYI, new regulations for tour guides. And BTW, the tour not actually going into the district, but walking around it with guide narrating, then near end, guide directs you to walk into one or two streets or alleys alone to actually see happenings if any in the district. This is to prevent gawking, disrespectful behavior, on part of tourists. So if you don't want to be mistaken for a "customer" when you just a "tourist" think twice.
