Free Alternative Tour of Lisbon

Immerse yourself in the most creative, rebellious, and authentic side of Lisbon with our Alternative Tour: a journey through urban art, underground culture, and the stories that pulse through the streets of Mouraria, Graça, and their most iconic viewpoints.

We begin at Martim Moniz, next to the Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Saúde, the gateway to a multicultural, vibrant, and constantly transforming Lisbon. Here we will welcome the group and provide a brief introduction to the spirit of the Alternative Tour: the importance of Lisbon within European underground culture, the evolution of graffiti in the city, and the differences between graffiti, urban art, and artistic intervention.

From there, we will delve into the historic Mouraria, one of the most soulful neighborhoods in Lisbon. At Largo da Severa, we will discover Camila Watson's tribute to the fadistas and the memories of the neighborhood, a perfect point to discuss identity, tradition, fado, and cultural resistance.

We will continue to Rua dos Lagares, where we will encounter “Olhares Anónimos” by VHILS, a work that seems to sculpt the city's memory directly onto its walls. Its anonymous faces invite us to reflect on who inhabits Lisbon, who transforms it, and who risks being forgotten.

The route continues through Caracol da Graça, an open-air urban gallery where works by various artists, including uTOPÍA and MOULIN, coexist. This section reveals how stairs, walls, and everyday corners can become spaces of collective expression.

We will then arrive at Miradouro da Graça, where Aka Corleone's work, “Desasosiego,” dialogues with one of the city's most emblematic views. Among art, landscape, and literature, we will talk about Lisbon as a stage of inspiration, contradiction, and beauty.

The walk continues through Vila Bertha, one of the most unique architectural gems of Graça, before discovering in Beco dos Peixinhos the delicate work of Leonor Brilha, where embroidery and popular memory integrate into the language of urban art.

On Rua do Sol à Graça, we will find the impressive “Ferry” by Bordalo II, a piece that mixes creativity, environmental critique, and material reuse to remind us that art can also be a call to attention about the world we are building.

We will proceed to Rua da Senhora da Glória, where the collaboration between Obey and VHILS unites two internationally recognized styles in a powerful work, loaded with symbols, faces, and universal messages. Very close by, at number 106, we will discover Add Fuel's intervention, which reinterprets traditional Portuguese tiles with a contemporary and provocative look.

Further along, on Rua Natália Correia, we will find works by Obey, Oze Arv, and Daniel Eime, artists who showcase different ways of understanding portraiture, visual protest, and the creative occupation of public space.

The tour culminates at Miradouro de Nossa Senhora do Monte, one of the most spectacular points in Lisbon. From there, with the city sprawling at our feet, we will close the journey by connecting everything seen: art, memory, neighborhood, identity, urban transformation, and alternative culture.

The Alternative Tour is not just a walk through murals. It is an invitation to look at Lisbon with different eyes: to listen to its walls, discover its hidden voices, and understand how urban art has become one of the most vibrant ways of telling the contemporary story of the city.
