Tour description

This tour starts by the western gates of the Old City and it's a combined overview of the most important landmarks, the overall history and culture of Dubrovnik.
First learn how the city, also known as The Pearl of Adriatic, came to be, how it grew and became one of the largest walled cities in Europe.

Then immerse yourselves into the turbulent political history of the city and Croatia, and you will soon realize why Winston Churchill once said that the peoples of the Balkans produce more history than they can consume.

In this tour you will also learn about the republican spirit and classical notion of freedom (Libertas) which was cherished by the nobles and notable commoners of the premodern Republic of Dubrovnik, and you will realize that we have a lot to learn from these people.

You will see:

  • Kolorina Cove
  • Saint Lawrence Fortress (without entering)
  • Pile Gate (western gates and moat)
  • Large Onofrio's fountain
  • Jesuit stairs (Walk of Shame stairs)
  • Jesuit Church
  • The Cathedral (without entering)
  • Rector's palace (without entering)
  • The Main square
  • Orlando’s Column
  • Sponza palace and more...

- Maximum number of participants: 15
- I suggest you take a bottle of water

The guy made the history of Dubrovnik very clear. He knew lots of facts, told us interesting stories apart from history. He made many jokes and I believe everybody enjoyed the tour. At the end he sent us bunch of information about places to eat, drink and to visit apart from The Old city. I totally recommend him. I've visited 5 free walking tours in different cities. That one is my top 1. Enjoy!

Viktor is a guide who is very passionate about his subject matter so it made for a great tour of Old Town Dubrovnik which gave us a good overview and from thereon we were able to visit most of the highlights n appreciate the history n glory days of Dubrovnik. Viktor also shared with us a wealth of information post tour which helped us fill the gaps on any further questions we had on the history of this beautiful city which is a must visit in my books now.

Viktor is very passionate and speaks quite fast. The tour moves between locations quickly. We were able to determine what places to revisit including the Rector Palace and Fort. Our guide was very willing to answer any questions. The tour is jam packed.
