"Old Town" of Dubrovnik is centar birthplace of the city and origin capital of the Dubrovnik Republic, a center of once small size, but significant maritime power.
For 450 years the city-state Republic of Dubrovnik (latin: Ragusa) held independence (1358 AD - 1808 AD) between big and powerful rivals with devastating natural disasters, in very turbulent times. Today "Old Town" of Dubrovnik is a UNESCO world heritage site, a location that is almost like a big open museum where time almost stopped for centuries. Stronghold is surrounded by 2 kilometer astounding walls, once with a moat below drawbridge, with numerous towers, bastions and forts.

From the City gates of Pile (west entrance), through a stone bridge with a wooden drawbridge via main street Stradun (Placa) to the City gates Ploče (east entrance) and a few little streets by side.
