Introduction to Islam

Welcome to Istanbul Dear Walkers!
  

Islam is the major practiced religion in Turkiye and in order to discover its characteristics we exclusively design this tour for walkers who come from non-islamic background.

As a route of the tour we have 2 Unesco World Heritage Destinations of Old City, Suleymaniye Mosqueand Pantakrator Monastery.  The tour route finishes at more local, residential area of practising muslims.

We will take off from the daily relations of muslims into the social practices. Plus, understanding the role of mosque for muslim communities and Islam as it is explained inner & external peace.

In this tour program we would like to cover;

Daily and weekly practises of muslims in the mosque context
Social life in the local practising muslim areas
Sufism, mystical understanding of Islam


Visiting the following places all in a row:

Suleymaniye Mosque
Suleymaniye Historical Ottoman Mansions
The Aqueduct of Valens
Tokadi Sufi Cemetary
Old City Local Butcher Bazaar
Zeyrek Mosque (Formerly a church) 
Zeyrek Cistern Panoramic Old City View Terrace
Islamic Institutions, Charity Organisations (from outside)

Note that at the end of the tour, you are expected to tip the guide minimum 15 Pound, 20 Dollar, 20 Euro or 1000 liras per person. 

Dress modestly as we have mosque visits during this tour. (We recommend bringing along scarves and shawls to be able to cover certain parts of the body)

The tour duration, tour route and stops may vary depending on the guide and the number of participants. 

Smoking and consumption of alcohol are strictly prohibited during the tour.

This tour is not friendly for children, (10 and under),baby strollers and not suitable for those who have difficulty walking on steep ground.
