Cape Slavery Afrikaner Nationalism and Apartheid:

  • 2 hours and 30 minutes
  • English

Description

Welcome to Cape Town!
Join me as we travel back in time to the Cape, to the years long before the stop offs by Portugues explorers and the arrival of the VOC / Dutch East India Company. Our journey explores the introduction of the Dutch Reform Church, the arrival of the first slaves, the introduction of Islam, the rise of Afrikaner Nationalism and the legislation of racial divide known as Apartheid in South Africa. Did you know that during the years of Apartheid, special courts were set up to reclassify South Africans who felt the need to appeal their race classification. This was very often in the case where family members differed in features and skin tone. Reclassification was primarily based on a person's appearance, language, social circle and even food consumed.

In short, Cape Slavery Afrikaner Nationalism and Apartheid is a complex journey through a timeline of history peoples and politics, culture and custom, heritage and ultimately the birthing of a democratic racially diverse nation in April 1994.
