Essential Free Tour through the Latin Quarter
Tour description
Return with us to ancient Paris, where it all began for this city to become the most beautiful in the world.
The Latin Quarter of Paris, with roots dating back to the Middle Ages, is a historical and cultural enclave in the heart of the city. Named for being the epicenter of learning and Latin at the ancient University of the Sorbonne, the neighborhood has been a meeting point for students, intellectuals, and artists for centuries. It emerged as an academic center and became a melting pot of thought, creativity, and rebellion. From the student struggles of 1968 to the vibrant artistic and literary scene, the Latin Quarter remains a symbol of Parisian bohemia and a place where history and modernity converge in the cobblestone streets, literary cafes, and iconic monuments that define it.
Our tour begins at the Saint Michel fountain, one of the most impressive fountains in the entire city, featuring the archangel Michael with a sword in hand. From there, we will head to the street of the Fishing Cat, the narrowest street in Paris, named after a peculiar story. Next, we will visit the Shakespeare and Company bookstore, one of the most important bookstores in Paris, with a great tradition due to the historical figures who have been inside, such as the writer Ernest Hemingway and others. After that, we will continue the tour until we reach the church of Saint Julien le Pauvre, the first seat of the University of Paris.
And if you are enjoying the tour, get ready because I will take you to the church of Saint Severin, then we will go to the Cluny Museum, which has a history that will leave you speechless.
We will continue the tour towards the Sorbonne Square, from there the tour continues towards the Pantheon Square in Paris. This monument houses the remains of such illustrious personalities as Marie Curie and Victor Hugo.
We will end the tour in front of the church of Saint Étienne du Mont, a church whose history dates back to the 11th century. Moreover, it is in front of this church where scenes from the famous movie "Midnight in Paris" by Woody Allen were filmed.
