Two-hour city tour through Tirana – history, culture and change
Tour description
Our tour begins at Skanderbeg Square, the vibrant heart of Tirana. Here, past and present meet: the National History Museum with its large mosaic, the Et'hem Bey Mosque, and the Clock Tower dominate the scene. The square symbolizes modern, open Albania.
A short walk takes us to the Parliament, located in a neighborhood of interwar villas. Here we gain insight into Albania's political system and its transformation since democratization.
Next, we'll visit the Tabak Bridge, a small 18th-century Ottoman stone bridge that once connected the craftsmen's quarter. Today, it's a listed monument—a silent relic of a bygone era.
We then reach the striking pyramid, once the mausoleum of Enver Hoxha. It is currently undergoing extensive renovation – a symbol of Tirana's transformation and renewal.
The elegant Mother Teresa Square, surrounded by educational and cultural institutions, honors the Nobel Peace Prize winner of Albanian descent. It stands for education, dignity, and spiritual development.
Not far away is the Enver Hoxha Villa – a relic from the communist era, which even from the outside gives an impression of the power relations of that time.
Our tour ends in the Youth Park (Parku Rinia) – a green oasis with cafés and a relaxed atmosphere, ideal for reflecting on the day.
