Our route connects two towns with completely different personalities: San Marcos La Laguna and San Juan La Laguna.

SAN MARCOS LA LAGUNA – NATURE AND SPIRITUALITY

We begin by exploring San Marcos La Laguna, a small town situated between the mountains and the waters of Atitlán.

We will walk through its narrow pedestrian paths while discovering the coexistence between the local Mayan community and travelers from different parts of the world who have turned San Marcos into a renowned center for wellness, meditation, and contact with nature.

During the tour, we will talk about the town's history, the Mayan worldview, traditional plants, the volcanic landscape, and the spiritual importance that the mountains and the lake have had for the communities of Atitlán.

The experience may include a hike to the natural areas and viewpoints of San Marcos, depending on the time available.

BOAT TRIP ACROSS THE LAKE

Afterwards, we will take a public boat to San Juan La Laguna.

This journey is part of the experience: from the lake, we can interpret the cultural landscape of Atitlán, its volcanoes, mountains, towns, and the historical relationship of the communities with the water.

SAN JUAN LA LAGUNA – ART, COLORS, AND TZ’UTUJIL CULTURE

In San Juan, we will discover one of the most interesting Tz’utujil communities of the lake.

We will walk through its streets decorated with murals that tell stories about Mayan identity, nature, traditions, and daily life.

We will visit community projects and learn about the work of local weavers, learning about cotton, the traditional weaving process, and natural dyes obtained from plants and other regional elements.

We will also learn about the importance of medicinal plants, cocoa, coffee, and other products that are part of the community economy.

The tour will allow us to understand how San Juan has used art, culture, and community tourism as tools to preserve and share its identity.

At the end of the experience, each participant can economically recognize the guide's work, preparation, and dedication according to their satisfaction and budget.
