Allston Rock City: Food Tour of Boston’s Creative Hub
Tour description
Allston-Brighton (aka Allston Rock City) is a unique neighborhood on the western edge of Boston. Loaded with art, music, and history, there's no shortage of wicked good food!
We'll stop at 3-5 local food businesses while surrounded by public art, community gardens, music venues and more.
Here, Julia Child and Jacques Pépin launched America's first Master's Degree in Food Studies and Gastronomy at BU. By then, Allston was already on its way to becoming the hub global food experiences that you'll experience on this tour.
Named after painter and poet Washington Allston in 1868, this neighborhood has grown uniquely situated for creative expression, with the rise of musical legends like Aerosmith, food innovations that have gone on to be enjoyed worldwide (with at least one even receiving a blessing from the Dalai Lama!). Most of all, this is a place where we can treat every person as a valued community member, in the legacy of unhoused neighbors like Mr. Butch, Emack, and Bolio.
With shared plates and some individual orders, food costs are pay-what-you-can as we go, and you can expect $15-25 of food each. Tipping your guide well at the end allows us to pay for people to join in a spirit of mutual aid with their food costs covered (and to be able to eat as a guide too)!
+ Naturally, you'll have options to check out some up-and-coming live music after the tour!
