Tour description

On this free walking tour, I’ll guide you through the highlights Lucerne has to offer. Together, we’ll uncover why there’s a lonely archway standing in front of the train station, explore the history of the iconic Chapel Bridge, dive into the curiosities of Lucerne Carnival, and discover the story behind the famous Lion Monument.

Our stops include the KKL (Culture and Convention Centre), the Chapel Bridge, the Jesuit Church, Unter der Egg, the Musegg Wall, the Bourbaki Museum, and the Lion Monument, along with a few other hidden gems along the way.

We’ll begin in front of the KKL, right next to Lucerne’s main train station. From there, we’ll head toward the station itself before talking about the famous Chapel Bridge. Nearby, I’ll share the story of Switzerland’s first large baroque church, the Jesuit Church.
At Unter der Egg, we’ll step into Lucerne’s Carnival traditions, often called the “fifth season of the year,” a topic we’ll continue at the Fritschi House in the Old Town. From there, we’ll make our way to the Musegg Wall, the historic town defences with their unique towers.
Our walk then leads us to the Lion Monument, where I’ll explain its surprising connection to the French Revolution, even though we’re still in Switzerland. We’ll finish at the Bourbaki Museum and the Church of St. Leodegar, rounding off the tour with stories that link Lucerne to wider European history.
