The Soul of Përmet: Roses, History & Stone Legends
Welcome to Përmet, known as the "City of Roses" and the heart of the Vjosa Valley! If you want to discover the true spirit of this stone-carved town beyond the guidebooks, this walk is for you.
We will start our journey in the vibrant City Center, right under the shadows of the monumental statues. From there, we’ll dive into the Old Quarter (Varosh), where the narrow cobblestone alleys and traditional architecture tell stories of a rich and diverse past.
The highlight of our tour will be the legendary "Guri i Qytetit" (The City Rock). I’ll share with you the ancient legends of how this massive rock gave the city its name and its strength.
As we walk, I’ll give you the local "insider" tips: where to find the best Gliko (our famous fruit preserves), where the locals drink their morning coffee, and the best way to enjoy the Vjosa, the last wild river in Europe.
What we will explore:
- The Main Square: History of our national heroes.
- Varosh Neighborhood: Traditional houses and hidden churches.
- The City Rock: Climbing the stairs for a panoramic view (optional).
- Local Culture: Traditions of hospitality and the famous Përmet Gliko.
