Footsteps of Freedom: A Historic Walk Through the Heart of Accra
Tour description
My historic tour begins in the heart of Accra at the iconic Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. This peaceful park honors Kwame Nkrumah, the man who led Ghana to independence in 1957. As I walk through the gardens and museum, I reflect on his leadership, the struggle for freedom, and Ghana’s role in inspiring African liberation. The mausoleum stands as a powerful symbol of unity and peace.
From there, I head to the nearby Independence Arch at Black Star Square. With the bold inscription “Freedom and Justice” and the Black Star above it, the monument represents Ghana’s victory over colonial rule. Standing beneath it, I imagine the historic declaration of independence and the pride of a nation stepping into self-governance.
My journey ends at Osu Castle, a centuries-old fortress that once served as a colonial seat of power and later as Ghana’s presidential residence. Its walls tell stories of trade, colonialism, and transformation. Together, these landmarks offer a powerful and moving glimpse into Ghana’s path to freedom and nationhood.
Entrance fees are paid at the following attractions.
1. Kwame Nkrumah memorial park 10 USD
