Tour description
Did you know that during the medieval period, Marrakech was one of the most powerful cities in the world? Founded in 1070 by the Yusuf ibn Tashfin of the Almoravid dynasty, the city quickly became the capital of an empire that stretched across Morocco, Spain, and parts of West Africa.
In the 12th century, under the Almohads, Marrakech became a center of science, architecture, religion, and trade. The iconic Koutoubia Mosque was built during this time, its minaret dominating the skyline just as it does today. Scholars, poets, and traders from Andalusia and the Sahara filled the streets, while caravans brought gold, spices, and stories from Timbuktu.
As we walk through the old medina, you are not just seeing walls and monuments — you are stepping into a city that once shaped the destiny of North Africa and Al-Andalus.
