Come walk through the myths of Athens and discover the stories hidden in its hills.
Along the way, you'll meet Theseus and Ariadne, Athena and Poseidon, the Nymphs, the Muses, Pan and the mysterious snake-born kings of Athens.
You'll also discover ancient rituals, beliefs and traditions that make much more sense when you see the places where they were once imagined, worshipped and celebrated. We begin with the birth of the cosmos and the great stories of Greek mythology, following them through the generations of gods and heroes until we reach the origins of Athens itself.
Why did the Athenians choose Athena over Poseidon as their patron goddess? How did Hera's milk create the Milky Way? And what does a child born from the earth have to do with the way Athenians understood their own origins? The answers are hidden in the stories, landscapes and sacred places surrounding the Acropolis.
But the Stories Didn't End in Ancient Greece... Athens has continued to create its own myths.
As we move through the hills around the Acropolis, we'll also explore urban legends, local superstitions and darker stories that have survived into modern times — including some intriguing rumours about secret rituals and mysterious happenings around the Acropolis.
