Historical Photo Walk through Cologne's Old Town - Creative City Tour with Camera & Phone
Cologne is loud, lively, and sometimes chaotic – and that's exactly why it's a great place for photography.
On this free tour, we will explore the old town of Cologne together. We will not only look at the well-known sights but also the elements that make good pictures: light, perspective, lines, people, colors, and the right moment.
The tour is a mix of city tour and photo walk. You will hear short, entertaining stories about the places we visit and receive simple photographic tasks that you can try out immediately. It's not about complicated techniques, but about seeing more consciously and taking better pictures with your smartphone or camera.
We start at the Heinzelmännchen Fountain with a relaxed introduction to the most important basics of photography. At the Alter Markt, we focus on composition and exciting perspectives. At Tünnes and Schäl, we practice observation and timing, as good photos often come from waiting rather than quick shooting. At the Fish Market, we pay attention to light, color, and reflections. Then we use lines, contrasts, and architecture around Heinrich-Böll-Platz before we deal with perspective, depth, and foreground at the Hohenzollern Bridge. Finally, one of the city's most famous and challenging subjects awaits us: the Cologne Cathedral.
This tour is ideal for you if you want to experience Cologne and at the same time learn how to take better travel, street, or memory photos. You don't need any prior knowledge. A smartphone is completely sufficient. If you want to bring a camera, that's of course also welcome.
In the end, you will not only take new pictures with you but above all a different view of Cologne.

Guiding since 2026Michael – Photographer, Filmmaker, and Trainer from Cologne. I am a freelance photographer and filmmaker based in Cologne. For many years, I have worked for companies and organizations in the trades, industry, and the public sector – always focusing on what matters: the people behind the business. My images aren't about glossy staging, but about authenticity, intimacy, and character. My assignments take me to workshops, production halls, offices, or events – to where people work, create, and live. There, I accompany people with my camera and tell their stories in pictures and films – candid, precise, and with an eye for the essential. In addition to my work as a photographer, I also work as a trainer. In workshops, coaching sessions, and photo walks, I share my knowledge and experience. I show how to photograph more consciously, discover creative perspectives, and take impressive pictures with simple means – whether with a smartphone or a camera. For me, the practical application is always paramount: out of theory, into the picture. Whether it's guided city tours with a photographic focus, corporate training, or individual coaching – my goal is to inspire people to see. Because a good photograph doesn't begin with technique, but with attentiveness. I originally come from Northern Germany, but I've lived in Cologne since 2001 and now "understand" the Cologne way of life quite well ;-)
