The Other Side. Cacilhas: Panoramic Views, Hidden History & Street Art
Most visitors never cross the river. That's exactly why you should.
Join me for an intimate 2.5 hour walk through Cacilhas and Almada: the authentic, unpolished, locally loved side of the Tagus that most tourists never find.
Small groups only, maximum 5 people.
Along the way you'll discover:
- 2,000 years of waterfront history: from Roman times to the Age of Discovery to today
- Portugal's last sailing warship and a Cold War submarine, side by side on the river
- A walk along abandoned riverside spaces with some of the most raw and authentic street art on the Tagus
- A panoramic glass elevator rising above the cliff (occasionally out of service — in that case we take the scenic stairs uphill)
- A tasting of Al-Madan: a local pastry of Moorish heritage, unique to Almada and almost unknown outside it
- A stop at an 18th century cultural gem perched on the cliff: where you can choose to go inside independently and explore contemporary art, panoramic views, and Portuguese flora and fauna
We end in the historic old town of Cacilhas, one of the most rewarding and authentic dining spots in the greater Lisbon area, perfect for a long lunch or dinner after the tour.
Tours in English and German.
What to bring:
We meet in Lisbon at Cais do Sodré, where we board the ferry together to Cacilhas. You'll need a Navegante card with at least €3.10 in Zapping credit for the round trip. Don't have one yet? No problem! I'll help you get set up at the terminal before we depart.
The tour lasts 2 hours and 45 minutes
Available in German and English
Guide: Rim
Guiding since 2026I moved to Lisbon 10 years ago and never looked back. What started as curiosity became a deep love for this city: its history, its contradictions, its hidden corners. I'm passionate about art and music, and I believe the best way to understand a place is through its stories. I'll share Portugal's with you in English or German, one street at a time.
