Pastry Tour in Madrid City Center

  • 2 hours
  • English and French

Description

This is A FREE TOUR for those foodies with a passion for pastries and food history!

During this 2 hour tour, I'll take you to the oldest bakeries and confectionary shops in Madrid and explain fun facts about them, what made them successful, and guide you through their most delectable pastries, sweet and savory. As a home baker and pastry lover, I look for the finest quality in pastries, and I'm going to show you some of the best of old Madrid.

First I will introduce you to one of Madrid's oldest bakeries where we can find the city's"secret" signature pastry---one that very few locals + tourists know about today! Then we will go to the oldest bakery in the city, where classics are made year-round--from hojaldre (puff pastry), and torrijas to roscón de Reyes (Christmas bread). Then we'll meander to the city's oldest turronería (turrón shop), and learn more about this specialty almond-based confection. We'll end the tour at a landmark restaurant and bakery that was the first establishment to welcome solo women diners in the 19th century.

We will have time to stop at each bakery along the way for a quick bite.

Please note that FOOD IS NOT INCLUDED in the tour. There is no obligation to make a purchase, but I encourage guests to try some goodies along the way, to get a better understanding of what it's like to live as a madrileña or madrileño.

Get your tastebuds ready!

Guide: Jessica
Guiding since 2023
I'm Californian-born, European at heart! I moved to Spain over a year ago specifically to study the foods and food culture in Spain. In addition to having guided visitors through the ins and outs of Spanish ham and empanadas, I have a background in entertaining and educating others about olive oil and dark chocolate. I have a major sweet tooth, too, so I've created a wonderful historic Cake Walk designed to take you to the most historic and significant bakeries and confectionaries in Madrid. I have also lived in France and Italy, and love to speak all four languages (English, French, Italian, and Spanish)--or a mix of all four--and learn about other people. :)
