Prostitutes, Merchants, and Pirates: The Unknown Venice
Tour description
In this tour, we will explore an alternative area to the most touristy part of the city, which nevertheless retains the charm and beauty that Venice has had since ancient times. On the other hand, it shows us the splendid past the city experienced in the Middle Ages and its decline starting from the 16th century. During our walk, we will cover the most important part of Venetian history, and we will do so through two neighborhoods: the Carampane neighborhood (Venice's red-light district), where prostitution was practiced in the city in quite peculiar ways, as we will see on the tour; and the Rialto Market district, the economic engine of Medieval Venice, as it is linked to the pillar that has supported Venice throughout most of its history: commerce. One of Venice's most emblematic festivals, The Carnival, will have a special prominence, as it has been linked to merchants since its origin, and the biography of one of the city's most important men, Marco Polo, will also be relevant.
*IMPORTANT: Groups of more than 6 people are not allowed, EVEN IF THEY COME WITH DIFFERENT RESERVATIONS. The guide may refuse admission to these groups on the tour. For groups of more than 6, we offer private tours at 150, which can be booked directly with the guide.
