Freetour Combarro
Tour description
I will wait for you at Praza Peirao da Chousa. Once all the visitors are gathered, this will be our first stop. The visit will begin by explaining the geographical situation of Combarro, as many people believe that Combarro is the municipality itself, which is not the case.
Subsequently, the layout of the village, the social class that inhabited it, and how it gradually became a place clearly dedicated to tourism will be explained. Although you will realize this as soon as the guided tour ends.
This is a route to look back at the past, at ancient Galicia, the one that believed in the Meigas and the Santa Compaña, two mythological resources that will be explained throughout the guided tour.
Our second stop will take place at Praza da Rúaleira where we will find one of the most unique cruceiros in all of Combarro, and that is why it deserves a special tribute. Away from all the hustle and bustle that the village may cause and with the background sound of the sea waves, along with some seagull singing its presence, the peculiarity of this monument will be explained, in addition to telling one of the legends involving it related to the meigas.
Our next stop will take place at Rúa Cega, as its name suggests, these were the houses that did not have sea views, compared to a hotel, they would be the standard rooms.
The difference between the houses of the farmers who worked the land and those of the sailors will be explained. As well as the difference in social classes just by the balconies.
Our next stop will take place at Rúa San Roque where we will find the Church of Betrayal, this church was named San Sebastián but after the plague and the deaths it left in its wake, they thought it was better to change the saint. So they decided to change it and venerate San Roque, discover why on this tour. There, the legend of the patron saint will also be explained. As it is known, when you set sail, you never know when you will return.
At this stop, the artistic style of the church will be explained, as well as the figure represented there, making reference to the famous saying of San Roque's dog.
Our next walk will take place along Calle San Roque covering four cruceiros of different typologies, where their utility as well as their artistic style will be explained. In one of them, and the closest to the church, the legend of the Santa Compaña will be explained.
The cruceiros of Combarro have stories that give goosebumps to any visitor unfamiliar with Galician traditions, as many of them have a table in front. Many people climb on them to take photos, but they wouldn't if they knew that they were once used to place the coffin of the deceased and pray until reaching the cemetery.
Or, even, some of them have babies buried at their feet who did not reach baptism in life. Recognize them with a simple symbol. Do you dare to take the cruceiros tour with me?
