Welcome travelers to Sanlucar de Barrameda! I am Gabriel, passionate about history and especially the history of my hometown. Its streets and monuments summarize important milestones in the history of Spain. I would love to tell you all these things and their historical repercussion as well as tell you the legends that hide its streets and the walls of its monuments. I wait for you!
We will take a tour of the most significant enclaves of the city that marked historical milestones; as was the culmination of the first circumnavigation.
The visit will take place through the most central and emblematic streets and squares of the city, coinciding with many of its civil and religious monuments . On Saturdays, I include a tour of the food market where you can see why Sanlúcar has been designated Gastronomic Capital of Spain 2022. (Remember to bring bibs for this part of the tour) At the end, you will surely be interested in trying some of those delicacies with a good tapa in one of the many bars and taverns in the city.
We will begin the tour in the "Barrio Bajo", starting at the Plaza del Cabildo , continuing through Plaza de San Roque , Trascuesta , Mercado de Abastos and Covachas to go up to the "Barrio Alto" having left behind central streets of churches and convents . At the end of the climb up the most historic slope of the town, we will be greeted by the imposing Palace of Orleans (Current Town Hall), from there to the Ducal Palace of Medina Sidonia and the Parroquia de la O; To finish the tour through the upper part of the city, we will arrive at one of the oldest constructions still in use, the Castillo de Santiago (15th century), passing through emblematic streets with its Manzanillas wineries . We will return to the "Barrio Bajo" of our town, arriving at the Church of Santo Domingo , the largest in size in the town and built entirely in stone, after that, we will continue to the Church of San Francisco, at this point our visit to the city; Of course, it will be the perfect time to cool off with a glass of manzanilla wine or a cold beer.
The tour will last approximately 1:30-2:00 . Tickets or interior visits to private monuments are not included, such as the Parroquia Mayor de Ntra. Sra. de la O, Palacio Ducal de Medina Sidonia, Castillo de Santiago or Iglesia de Santo Domingo.
These monuments can be visited by paying a ticket at the time you want to visit them.
I regularly collaborate with Guru Miguel, and on some occasions, he can make the visits that are reserved in my profile.
Meeting point: Open in Google Maps
How to find me: I will be right at the circular bench with a lamppost closest to Calle Ancha (pedestrian street)
