London's Movie Magic - Free Walking Tour

Duration: 2h and 30min
Languages: English
Guru: Alex
Registered on July 31, 2022

My name is Alex Sergeant and I am a professional film historian. I have been teaching in universities around London and the UK for over a decade. I have a PhD in Film Studies from King's College London, and am the author of several books dedicated to popular film and television. Outside my day job, I love to inform the public about my passion for cinema in variety of different ways, from giving tours to performing as a stand up comic. I am also the co-host of the podcast 'Fantasy/Animation', which you can download wherever you get your podcasts. I have lived in London for nearly 15 years, and I love it almost as much as I love movies. I'd be delighted to show you why.

Tour description

See some of the world's most recognisable movie locations and learn about the history of London's love affair with the big screen.

You will be guided by a professional film historian and movie-lover, who will introduce you to some of London's most famous sights, as well as some less well known but equally important locations.

You will learn why movies are important to understanding London's landscape, how filmmaking impacts London's economy and culture, and why it is impossible to imagine the city of London without imagining it first through the lens of a camera.

Tour Highlights include:

  • Trafalgar Square (The Ipcress File, Wonder Woman, Spectre)
  • Covent Garden (My Fair Lady, Sherlock Holmes)
  • The Historical Strand (Bridget Jones's Diary, Sense and Sensibility, Skyfall)
  • The Southbank (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Harry Potter)
  • Waterloo Bridge and the London Skyline (Mary Poppins, Thor: The Dark World, Mission Impossible - Fallout)
