Tour description

Mayfair is the wealthiest district in the entire United Kingdom and we want you to join us on a walk through opulence as we learn what makes this London locale so sought after!

We will begin on Oxford Street, outside the iconic Selfridge's Department Store.

Opened by Mayfair resident Harry Gordon Selfridge this is the first modern store designed for shopping as a pleasure, not necessity!

From there, we will journey to Grosvenor Square, home to the US embassy for 200 years, where you will learn about the American Presidents that have influenced the area.

Walk past the magnificent Claridge’s Hotel, home to Prime Minister Winston Churchill as well as members of royalty from around the world.

Meet the terrace houses that made George Frederic Handel and Jimi Hendrix neighbours as well as the home where Queen Elizabeth was born in 1926.

Find out where Sodium, Potassium, Barium, Boron, Calcium, Chlorine, Magnesium, Strontium, Iodine and Argon were discovered, why Lord Byron’s publisher burned his memoirs after his death (depriving the world of who knows what), stroll past the iconic Ritz Hotel, get a glance at some of the world's most expensive and luxurious vehicles, and discover what made Mayfair the most expensive property on the London Monopoly board!

So join Free Tours by Foot London as we take in the opulent surroundings of the Burlington Arcade, window shop at Cartier, Tiffany’s, Bentley, and Rolls Royce, and find out just exactly what the May Fair really was!

We were there in time, but did not see any guide, and no group either. We sent a message through the system, but no reply. Very disappointing.
