Welcome to Jaén Walker!!!
On this occasion, we embark on a new adventure in the Capital of the Holy Kingdom of Jaén.
Jaén is without a doubt the great unknown of Spain but there is no doubt that it is a place full of charm, with a great heritage and full of history. And it is precisely, due to history, that Jaén has been known for a long time as the Holy Kingdom of Jaén. In this tour we will try to reveal why.
We will start our free tour in the Plaza de Santa María right in front of the Cathedral of the Assumption where the architect Andrés de Vandelvira made this temple an absolute Renaissance architectural reference in the world, serving as a model for the rise of other Christian temples.
Next, we will visit the Palace of Constable Iranzo, of exquisite Mudejar taste where its former owner, Constable Miguel Lucas de Iranzo, made it into an entire court where he entertained his most distinguished guests with different events such as concerts and plays. We will talk about the different intrigues and conspiracies hatched against him that led to a fatal outcome.
Once we go out onto the street again, we will go to the Arco de San Lorenzo , a surviving vestige of the old Church of San Lorenzo where the body of Fernando IV "El Empladodo" was laid to rest, we will tell the story that led the young monarch to die in the capital. fruit of a particular curse.
A few meters from the Arch of San Lorenzo, we will stop right in front of the Anti-Aircraft Shelter of Santiago and we will tell how this fratricidal conflict would affect the Capital of the Holy Kingdom.
Next we will take a walk until we reach the Palace of the Lord of Villardompardo , current headquarters of two museums: The International Museum of Naive Art and the Museum of Popular Arts and Customs. But the most important thing it treasures are the "El Niño" Arab Baths, one of the five Arab baths that came to exist in medieval Jaén and are considered today the largest in all of Spain with a total of 450 m2.
A few meters from the Arab Baths we will find the Convent of Santo Domingo , founded in 1382 on the site of an old Moorish palace and where the Court of the Holy Office of Jaén , one of the oldest in all of Spain, would be founded.
After this short walk we will arrive at the Fuente del Lagarto , located in the heart of the Magdalena neighborhood, where we will tell the story of the famous Magdalena Lizard and how it has frightened the local people since time immemorial. We will discover his former home in the Raudal de la Magdalena and we will talk about how his days of terror came to an end.
We will end our visit in front of the Magdalena Church , where in its day, a old aljama mosque occupied its site, there We will be able to delight in the vision of a beautiful Patio del Sahn , where Muslims practiced their ritual bath before entering the temple.
Jaén is a city full of heritage and history that floods us once we venture to explore the streets of its historic center.
Do you dare to discover it with me?!?!
I'll wait for you!!!
Josue
