Tour description

Welcome to Jaén Walker!!!

On this occasion, we undertake a new adventure in the Capital of the Holy Kingdom of Jaén to delve into its multicultural roots. Indeed, we are talking about Muslim, Jewish and Christian cultures.

In the Jaén Free Tour of the Three Cultures we will be able to delve into the immense legacy that these three cultures left us in the capital of Jaén.

We will first visit the Cathedral of the Assumption located in the Plaza de Santa María where the architect Andrés de Vandelvira made this temple a Renaissance architectural reference in the world, serving as a model for the construction of other Christian temples on the other side of the world. puddle.

Next, we will visit the Palace of Constable Iranzo, of exquisite Mudejar taste where its former owner, Constable Miguel Lucas de Iranzo, made it into an entire court where he entertained his most distinguished guests with different events such as concerts and plays. We will talk about the different intrigues and conspiracies hatched against him that led to a fatal outcome.

Once we go out onto the street again, we will go to the Arco de San Lorenzo , a surviving vestige of the old Church of San Lorenzo where the body of Fernando IV "El Empladodo" was laid to rest, we will tell the story that led the young monarch to die in the capital. fruit of a particular curse.

A few meters from the Arch of San Lorenzo, we will stop right in front of the Anti-Aircraft Shelter of Santiago and we will tell how this fratricidal conflict would affect the Capital of the Holy Kingdom.

Next we will take a walk until we reach the Palace of the Lord of Villardompardo , current headquarters of two museums: The International Museum of Naive Art and the Museum of Popular Arts and Customs. But the most important thing it treasures are the Arab Baths of "El Niño", one of the five Arab baths that came to exist in medieval Jaén and are considered today the largest in all of Spain with a total of 450 m2.

After this short walk we will arrive at the Fuente del Lagarto , located in the heart of the Magdalena neighborhood, where we will tell the story of the famous Magdalena Lizard and how it has frightened the local people since time immemorial. We will discover his former home in the Raudal de la Magdalena and we will talk about how his days of terror came to an end.

Not far from said stream, we will stop to observe the Muslim vestiges that permeate the Church of the Magdalena, former aljama mosque, where we can delight in the vision of a beautiful Patio del Sahn , where Muslims practiced ablutions before entering the mosque that once occupied the site of the Christian temple.

Finally, we will go to the old Jewish quarter of Jaén located in the Plaza de los Huérfanos, current Barrio de la Santa Cruz, where we will finish our free tour by talking about the legacy that the Sephardic culture left in the city and where we will make special mention of the oldest Jew. famous Jaén, Ben Saprut, personal physician and diplomat of Abd al-Rahman III .

Jaén is, therefore, an authentic melting pot of cultures that speaks loudly to us today and invites us to discover it through its rich legacy captured in the form of steep streets, squares and monuments...

Do you dare to discover it with me?!?!

I'll wait for you!!!

Josue
