Coimbra Premium Free Tour (admission included)

The tour lasts 2 hours and 30 minutes
Available in English

Description

Please note: This tour involves additional costs for me (admission fees), so I will be expecting a higher value than is typical for free tours that only visit the exterior of the attractions. If you are traveling on a tight budget, please consider my other free tours. Thank you for your understanding.

My name is José. I am a certified Portuguese tour guide with a degree from the University of Coimbra, and I have lived in Coimbra for over 20 years. This allows me to speak not about what I have read regarding academic traditions, but about what I have personally experienced as a student.

This tour was designed to give you a deeper insight into the city, helping you better understand its history and culture (which is why I’ve included visits inside some of the attractions), but also what makes its relationship with the university so special.

To bring the city's history to life, I use visual aids like photos, diagrams, and maps. After all, seeing the past is often more impactful than just hearing about it.

Our journey begins in the heart of the university and covers all the main sights in Coimbra:

  • UNESCO-listed University (only exterior)
  • New Cathedral & Old Cathedral (including inside)
  • Coffee break at a hidden gem for coffee, photos, and restrooms
  • Machado de Castro Museum courtyard (temporararly closed)
  • Historic Downtown (Fado Monument, Almedina Arch, St. James Church)
  • Santa Cruz Church (including inside, please notice that during mass isn't possible to visit the inside)
  • Portagem square (end point)

Along the way, you'll discover Coimbra's academic traditions and gain insight into student life and the city's culture.

We’ll also pass by fantastic spots for panoramic and artistic photos, and I’ll share tips on great restaurants and other highlights.

At the end of the tour, you’ll receive a handy guide with essential information about Coimbra.

Let’s make your Coimbra experience unforgettable!
