Hi, I’m Philipp – a certified local guide, trained architect, and founder of Philipp's Munich Tours. I’m a native German speaker and fluent in English and Spanish. Over the years, I’ve received hundreds of 5-star reviews across multiple platforms. My tours blend architecture, art, history, and creativity to reveal a side of Munich that’s full of surprises. We’ll explore iconic landmarks like the Frauenkirche as well as hidden gems such as Bahnwärter Thiel with bold street art, the quirky Alte Utting (featured in The New York Times), and the amazing Isar River. In bohemian Schwabing, we’ll uncover striking Jugendstil architecture and trace the footsteps of cultural icons like Thomas Mann and Wassily Kandinsky, co-founder of the expressionist movement Blauer Reiter (Blue Rider). Expect vivid storytelling, unexpected discoveries, and a creative twist – you’ll even make your own spray-painted postcard as a personal souvenir. Join me for a unique and unforgettable Munich adventure!

Tour description

Bilingual Art & Architecture Tour | English & German

Small group experience (max. 12 guests)

Explore Munich beyond the classics on this creative, hands-on art and architecture tour. Together, we discover the city’s most authentic and innovative neighborhoods while painting four selected highlights directly on location using watercolor techniques.

During the colder months, painting takes place indoors at inspiring creative venues — including a heated shipping container at the cultural hub Bahnwärter Thiel.

Using pre-printed postcards, this experience is perfectly suited for beginners and experienced artists alike. No artistic background is required — just curiosity, openness, and a love for creativity.

Along the way, we uncover Munich’s hidden gems: Piazza Zenetti, the former cattle yard district, the bold new Münchner Volkstheater, the street-art-filled Beginner’s Wall, and one of the city’s most iconic alternative venues — Alte Utting. This former ship, now a café, restaurant, and cultural space high above the city, was even featured in the The New York Times.

Highlights

What will we see on this tour?

Meeting point:
Piazza Zenetti
We'll meet at Piazza Zenetti Square, easily identified by its distinctive grey and turquoise street furniture. Look for me with a tablet slung over my shoulder — I’ll be easy to spot. The easiest route is via subway lines U3 or U6. Exit at Poccistrasse station and enjoy a 10-minute walk to our meeting point.
1
Free entry
Munich Volkstheater
The München Volkstheater is a modern architectural masterpiece, rich with stories told through color, form, and design.
2
Outside visit
Beginner's Wall
The Beginner’s Wall is Munich’s only legal space where street art beginners can freely practice and express themselves.
3
Outside visit
Former cattle yard district
In 1878, the slaughterhouse and cattle yard district was established here. In 2006, the last horse was sold to Munich’s Cowboy Club, marking the end of an era.
