Barcelona: Story of a Transformation

In this approximately two-hour tour, we will explore together the places that tell the incredible transformation of Barcelona: from a small Roman town to a modern and international metropolis.

We will start from the origins of Barcino, in the historic heart of the city, between Plaça de Sant Jaume and the traces of the ancient Roman past. We will then enter medieval Barcelona between Plaça del Rei, the Barcelona Cathedral, and the charm of the Barri Gòtic, to understand how a city enclosed within its walls lived.

We will discover why Barcelona was forced to open up to the future, with the demolition of the walls and the revolutionary urban project by Ildefons Cerdà: the birth of the Eixample, the modern city designed in a grid.

We will then cross into the world of Catalan modernism and Antoni Gaudí, where architecture and imagination transform Barcelona into an open-air work of art.

The journey will conclude with the great turning points of the modern city: the Universal Expositions and the 1992 Olympics, which made Barcelona one of the most beloved cities in the world.
