When was the last time you took advantage of the outdoors where the vistas blew your socks off and the experience left you telling your friends for years thereafter? The little known and off the beaten path locations I take those who join me exemplify hidden gems. Often wonders of, or a connection with, nature are what we explore and discover in the safety and camaraderie of a like-minded group. Whether cultural and scenic travel such as on an amazing whirlwind tour to the most breathtaking natural wonders in the China if not the world (October 2018) or a haunted hayride with over 12 haunted houses built by professional Broadway and movie set designers we take events to a whole new level of experience. Carson Tang, is an Adventure Travel Leader, an Event Marketing professional, and helps run an adult coed softball league in Prospect Park, Brooklyn every Friday. He has led trips to China 2009 (again Oct. 2018), Jackson Hole and Yellowstone National Parks 2017, Idaho and Utah 2017, Alaska 2009, Niagara Falls and Northern NY 2016, Utah 2006, Yosemite 2005, Canadian Rockies, Grand Canyon multiple trips, Mt Rainier, Mt St. Helens, Goat Rocks Wilderness, Gifford Pinchot, and Rangely Lakes Maine, Acadia National Park, and the White Mountains. Carson was the Chair of the Executive Committee of the Appalachian Mountain Club a 110,000 member 501C(3) non-profit bringing members out of their living rooms and from behind their smart phones to promote and steward nature and the outdoors. He also held several Committee Chair positions including Hiking, Singles & Sociables, Leadership Training, Spring Gathering, and Web Committee. He is a former alpine ski instructor, and produces festivals, workshops and retreats. He has been interviewed on NBC and cable television networks, in various magazines, newspapers and radio shows. Some of the training he has personally conducted includes outdoor basics, map and compass, hiking essentials, and outdoor leaders training programs. Carson has been certified in Wilderness First Aid, Advanced Wilderness First Aid, Standard First Aid, and CPR.
About the tour
Did you know about an hour from NYC you can capture the raw power of New Jersey's tallest waterfall while soaking in the spiritual energy of the outdoors?
We arrange ride shares if you need (rideshare contribution to drivers are typically $20 if you need a ride) otherwise you can just meet us at the start of our day hike. Joining the trip is completely free and we gladly accept donations.
Some trips are public transportation accessible although this one has none that travel to this hard to find and hidden gem of a
location. Departure from NYC is approx. 8:00AM. Rain cancels. As this requires rideshares and drivers meeting at a start location we need to communicate with you all updates for this trip.
This day hike starts at Buttermilk Falls, the tallest waterfall in NJ (you be the judge). If we time it just right it will be a beautiful sight. We begin at the base of the falls and hike up alongside the falls up to the Appalachian Trail.
A beautiful diverse area and very quiet as it does not attract many hikers as it is difficult to locate and is away from any public transit in the Delaware Water Gap, in NJ.
Date: Saturday, April 21, 2018
Hike Time: 9:30AM to ~ 5:00PM
Mileage: 7.5 Miles
Gain: Approx. 1,300'+
Environment: All trail except along waterfall (wooden staircase)
Apres hike stop (we located a fantastic place nearby we will swing by after hike)
No park fee
Local hikes run about every two weeks, and regional multi-day car trips such as to Acadia NP, Niagara Falls, the White Mountains, etc occur either around July 4th or during Fall Foliage. Away trips such as to China, Alaska, Canadian Rockies, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, etc. are occur once a year.
For over 20+ years I've led groups to some of the most memorable adventures in the area. The local events are 100% free if you apply the discount code to waive the online processing fee. They are funded by voluntary contribution - either pay nothing or feel the love and contribute what you feel it was worth.
A sampling of some areas our day hikes take place are Mohonk, Breakneck, Delaware Water Gap, Bear Mountain, Harriman, and more. We also do regional multi-day drive trips to areas like Acadia National Park, Niagara Falls, Quebec City, the White Mountains, Washington DC; including away trips to China, Alaska, Canadian Rockies, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, and beyond (multi-day away trips do have a charge to join).
