Essential Free walking tours of Addis Ababa

Had the pleasure of having Getachew show me around Addis. Great guide. Tour took 6 hours and we went everywhere. Lots of walking; local bus and taxi. A great overview of life here. I highly recommend Getachew.

Undoubtedly one of the best walking tours I have done! Getachew is very friendly, knowledgeable and flexible to adapt the schedule and itinerary to our needs. For example, I had more free time and our tour ended up being a full day tour across the city, visiting local places! He is very enthusiastic and attentive, and I was feeling safe throughout the day at all places. Most definitely recommend!!

My tour with Geta was the best I've ever done through Guruwalk! He was extremely attentive, taking good care of the group and providing all the information we wanted to know about the history of Addis and the places we visited. Some colleagues and me did a tour with Guruwalk and we reached out to Getachew, who was very spontaneous about it and flexible about our requirements. Unfortunately we couldnt go through the complete tour because the flight was quite long and we needed to get some rest, however, I think that the time with our guide was quite interesting and he has good insides into Addis. Very exciting tour!!

I accepted an offer from Gatachew and rented a car for the day. It turned out to be a fantastic idea, even though I spent most of the time with his friend, Migbaru, who was an excellent guide. Together, we managed to visit several places in Addis that I could never have explored on my own. We made stops for honey wine, a coffee ceremony, a bar, and dinner at a local spot. Thank you so much!

Getachew is the best guru I have had in a long time. He personalized to me the trip, showing me what I was interested. Provided a lot of historic and cultural tips, as well as interesting information without being monotonous. I also appreciate that he protected me and gave me advice about how to survive at Addis. He even took me at night to a cultural restaurant to live a vibrant nightlife in Addis. Go ahead my friend. Ethiopia needs more young people like you. Thanks for this experience.

Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, and his passion for the city was evident from the start. He shared fascinating stories about Addis Ababa’s history, including its establishment by Emperor Menelik II, and its importance in African diplomacy, being the headquarters of the African Union. Each stop was brought to life with anecdotes and context that I would have missed if exploring on my own. The tour covered key landmarks like the National Museum of Ethiopia, where we saw the famous fossil, Lucy, and learned about Ethiopia’s ancient history. The visit to the Holy Trinity Cathedral was another highlight, with its stunning architecture and historical significance. We also stopped by Entoto Hill for breathtaking panoramic views of the city, and our guide explained the importance of the surrounding mountains. We also went to the Market where I was exposed to the local trading of locals.

Great guide and person. Really cares about the experience of his guests. We took his offer to rent a car for the day (25 USD) to see more of the city. It was a good time.

Getachew has been an amazing guide. He was with us for two full days, rented a car and showed us around Addis Ababa and took us to a day trip to Debre Libanos and the Djema waterfalls. He even took us out for dinner and drinks. He speaks perfect English and is very knowleadgeable of the Ethiopian history and culture. I totally recommend him as a guide for Ethiopia

I spent a half day together with Getachew, walking and driving around the most authentic places in Addis Ababa. It has been really a nice experience and, without him, exploring the city wouldn't have been the same. He even picked me up and dropped me off at my hotel. Fully recommended!

Even though I was the only person on the tour, Getachew and his friend came with a car because it was raining. That was very nice. We got to see a lot of places in the city. And for all this, their expectations from me were not that high. I gave them extra tip to make up for the use of the car. If you are in Addis, do look for Getachew. He is wonderful.

The city tour with Getachew was great! He picked us up at the hotel, and first discussed what we were hoping to see on the tour. The tour was then completely tailored to our preferences. He knew all the best coffee places and the spots to have a good overview of the big market. Generally, he was very knowledgeable on Addis and Ethiopia as a whole, and we had a wonderful afternoon with him.

Amazing day with Getachew. He picked me in the hotel on time and we decided our visit as I had already been in the museums of the city. So we went to the Holy Cathedral, helped me with some shopping and phone card and we visited the bustling ‘mercato’, the biggest open air market in Africa. It was a great and knowledgeable guide and I felt very good by his side. All time he was explaining and being very nice. Thanks Getachew for today!
