Eugene - Tour Guide in Kyiv

In Brief: Excellent private walking tour with a knowledgeable and personable guide. Relaxed, flexible, and genuinely insightful. Highly recommended. Detailed: I had Eugene as my guide and from the start he was excellent. He arrived exactly on time and was friendly and easy to talk to straight away. It ended up being just me on the tour, but he didn’t let that affect anything and still delivered a full, engaging experience. I actually had to cancel a booking with him the day before as I wasn’t feeling well, and he couldn’t have handled it better. He was very understanding and even messaged me personally to check in and see if I wanted to rebook, which was a really nice touch and not something you always get. The tour itself was really informative. We walked through some key streets in Kyiv and Eugene’s knowledge was clear throughout. He answered every question I threw at him without hesitation, and I appreciated that he was more than happy to go off topic to cover things I was curious about. It felt more like a conversation than a scripted tour, which made it far more enjoyable. In terms of coverage, the tour focuses on a relatively small area, so it is not one of those where you come away fully oriented with the whole city. That said, what it lacks in size it more than makes up for in depth. The areas we did cover were packed with history, and it gave me a much better understanding of Ukraine’s past and how it has shaped the country today. Eugene also made it clear that I could stay in touch with him after the tour if I needed any recommendations or advice. He was genuinely happy for me to reach out if I got stuck or needed help with anything. In a country where the culture and language are quite different from my own, that was a really reassuring gesture and something I thought was genuinely kind. One practical thing to be aware of is payment. Make sure you either have cash in Ukrainian hryvnia or a bank setup that allows easy international transfers, as UK banks in particular can make this more awkward than expected. And finally, if Eugene suggests heading to a bar at the end, trust him. The staff were friendly and the food was simple but genuinely delicious. Overall, I would definitely recommend this tour, especially if you want something more personal, flexible, and genuinely insightful rather than just ticking off landmarks.

We had a fantastic time on the tour of Kreshatyk Street with Eugene - it was a walk through history and architecture, and we learnt a lot. Eugene made the tour very engaging and was super flexible to our personal needs and interests. I would wholeheartedly recommend Eugene as a tour guide to anyone, and I am looking forward to booking more tours with him in the future!

Joined the tour on New Year's Eve and Eugene made time to accomodate me. He came very prepared with lots of materials and I found the old photos and information very interesting. I walked the same street again the next day and it was nice to be able to imagine what Eugene the previous day. This tour is totally recommended for everyone who wants to know Kyiv more than surface value.

Eugene was a great guide*. He takes attendees along a well-suited route to show important aspects of the city‘s past, including, of course, the troublesome soviet era and how Kyiv is freeing itself from the colonial heritage without destroying it all. The tour is thus a perfect starting point if you‘ve just arrived in Kyiv. After the walk we chatted about the grim reality Kyivians are facing today because of the same unfriendly neighbour to the east. These were three very enjoyable and informative hours and I now feel better prepared to further explore the city. * not a guru, seriously, who came up with that ridiculous brand name?
